Saint-Gobain plans to sell German SGBDD by end of 2019

06.12.2018 −

Saint-Gobain is planning to sell its German builders’ merchants division trading under the name of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution Deutschland (SGBDD), which covers the Raab Karcher segment amongst other brands, by the end of 2019. According to Pierre-André de Chalendar, CEO of Saint-Gobain, the sale plans are part of a more extensive restructuring process underway within the group under the name of “Transform & Grow”. In the course of the reorganisation planned in Germany, Kåre Malo, currently responsible for the worldwide activities of the “Building distribution” division at Saint-Gobain as senior vice president, will take over as CEO at SGBDD on 1 January and thereby take charge of the sale process too. Malo had already been managing director on an interim basis from the beginning of April to mid-October 2017 following the departure of Udo Brandt. Michael Schumacher, appointed CEO after this transitional solution, becomes country CEO at Saint-Gobain in Switzerland on 1 January.

According to a release issued on 26 November, the planned restructuring of the Saint-Gobain group as a whole is designed to lead to an acceleration in its portfolio rotation. In total, the group intends to jettison activities with a combined revenue volume of at least 3bn € and a corporate value totalling 1bn €. Three specific divestments have already been initiated with a combined revenue volume of around 2.3bn €.
