Russia: Roundwood felling has increased by 9%

In the first half of the year, log felling in Russia increased by 9% year-on-year to 115.4m m³. In 2017, according to the Russian forestry authority Rosleshos, the total volume remained stable at 212.4m m³ compared to the previous year. The volume of logs provided for priority projects increased by 11% to 35m m³; these investment projects are exempted from the obligation to buy logs at auctions.
By region, logging in Siberia increased by 5% in 2017 compared to the previous year. In Northwest and Central Russia, on the other hand, timber harvesting decreased by around 5% each.
