Resolute: Wood Products result clearly declines

06.11.2018 −

Canadian Resolute Forest Products (RFP) achieved an operating result of Can$ 45m in its Wood Products business in the third quarter, approximately Can$ 19m or just under 30% less than in the year-ago quarter. EBITDA decreased by Can$ 20m to Can$ 53m. According to the Company, the weaker results were due to a 4.5% decrease in sawn timber sales to 445m bdft and a strong increase in operating costs from Can$ 318 to Can$ 355/m³. In addition, Can$21m was paid in penalty duties.

Due to lower sales, sawnwood inventories increased significantly by approximately one-third to 162m bdft compared to the prior year. An average sales price for softwood lumber of 457 Can$/1,000 bdft, which is still significantly higher than the previous year's level, contributed to the fact that the business area's sales in the reporting period were only about 7% lower at Can$ 203m.
