Price for SPF 2x4 reaches all-time high in USA

At the beginning of October, the price for the benchmark grade of SPF 2x4 #2&Btr, established weekly by the US information service Random Lengths, reached a new record level. At 436 $/1,000 bdft, the figure was another 5 $ higher than the price for the previous week, putting 34.2% higher than a year earlier. The previous peak for this assortment in the last ten years was reached in April at 420 $/1,000 bdft.

The average figure for the Framing Lumber Composite Price (FLCP), also established by Random Lengths, continued to increase last week and, at the current level of 440 $/1,000 bdft, is still 11 $ below the present all-time high of 451 $/1,000 bdft from early April 2013.
Partly responsible for the latest increases in prices are the further decreasing imports from Canada. After the slump of around 35% in July, imports of softwood timber from Canada in August turned out to be 20% lower than in the same month of last year at a total of around 2.47m m³. US imports from Europe, on the other hand, were almost trebled in August at 151,222 m³.
