New Juodeliai sawmill put into operation in November

02.02.2021 −

In the second half of November, the Lithuanian wood-industry company Juodeliai put the new sawmill geared to an annual cutting capacity of 1m m³ of roundwood into operation at its Marijampole facility. Mainly hardwood is cut, and only a small proportion of softwood. Roughly 500,000 m³ of sawnwood can be produced annually at the 20 ha premises adjoining the Marijampole free trade zone. Combined with the three existing works of Akmenynai, Jure, and Radviliškis, the start-up of the Marijampole works boosts the group’s production capacity from the previous 250,000 m³ to around 750,000 m³ of sawnwood per year in future. With the new production plant, where approximately 100 employees work, Juodeliai believes it moves up to become the second-biggest European manufacturer of pallet boards.

The start-up ultimately took place a little later than the originally scheduled date of early October. Company sources say €50m has been invested in the building, a quarter more than the €40m budgeted for at the time the project was announced.
