Latvia exports 16% less sawn softwood

After a minus of 11 % in the first quarter of 2020, Latvian softwood lumber exports declined even more sharply in the second quarter, falling by 16 % to 739,900 m³. According to the Forest Department of the Latvian Ministry of Agriculture, Riga, the value of the exports was around € 140.9 million, a minus of almost 13 %. The average calculated export value per unit rose slightly by about 3 % to 190.4 €/m³.


After two consecutive quarters in which Latvian exports of coniferous sawn timber fell short of the respective figures for the previous year, the first half of the year saw a 12.2 % decline in exports to 1.404 million m³. The total export value amounted to € 266.9 million, about 22 % less than in the same period of the previous year.
