Interpol seizes tropical wood worth $262 million

In several operations coordinated by Interpol against illegal timber felling and trade, logs and lumber as well as charcoal with a combined value of $262m were seized by September. This result of the checks and police operations carried out in South and Central America since November 2014 and in nine West African countries from July to September was announced by the Interpol Wildlife Crime Working Group of 26 November following the 2nd Interpol Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Event in Singapore at the middle of the month. Confiscated most frequently in the West African operations in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Mauretania, Senegal, and Togo was illegally felled African rosewood (pterocarpus erinaceus) worth $216m.
