High risk of forest fire slows down logging in Sweden

The risk of forest fires, which has been high for weeks now, has led to a complete stop of logging in parts of Sweden. Södra Skog, for example, completely stopped logging in the Götaland region last week. In other areas of Sweden, logging has been stopped for the time being in those forest stands where there is a higher risk of sparks due to topography or soil conditions when driving on forestry machines equipped with chains or bogie belts.

According to Sofia Petersson, Wood Supply Manager at Södra Skog, the Group is in close contact with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) to coordinate further action on a daily basis. Wherever possible, logging measures have been shifted into the night.
