Final antidumping and CVD duties in November

08.09.2017 −

US Department of Commerce (DOC) has postponed the determination of final antidumping and countervailing duties (CVD) on Canadian deliveries of softwood lumber to the USA, originally announced for 7 September, to 14 November. In a release dated 28 August, the US Secretary of State, Wilbur Ross, attributes the postponement to the complexity of the investigations and the ongoing discussions and negotiations between the governments of the USA and Canada aimed at reaching an agreement for a lasting solution to the long-standing trade dispute.

According to information from US media, progress has meanwhile been made in the negotiations on a follow-on agreement between the USA and Canada. The Canadian minister of trade, Chrystia Freeland, had intimated at the beginning of August that cornerstones have already been largely established for a new trade agreement. Evidently still under discussion in this regard is the introduction of a maximum share of 30% that Canada can hold in the total US softwood lumber market.
