Export ban imposed on rubberwood by Malaysia

02.08.2017 −

An export ban on rubberwood has existed in Malaysia since 1 July. The decision taken by the Malaysian cabinet on 23 June was announced by the responsible Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) on 29 June. The reason given for the export ban is a continuing inadequate supply of raw material from rubberwood to the Malaysian furniture industry.

This species of wood is used by the Malaysian furniture industry both directly as timber and indirectly as Malaysian MDF production is based on rubberwood to a significant extent.
