EOS: Softwood consumption 2017 higher than expected

The consumption figures for sawn softwood determined by EOS for 2017 were revised upwards by around 1.3m m³ to 67.486m m³ compared to the original forecast of around 66.17m m³. For the current year, EOS expects a further increase in the consumption of sawn softwood within the member states by 1.6 % or around 1.049m m³ to 68.535m m³. The highest increase in volume is forecast for Germany. Consumption is expected to increase by 1.6% or 334,000 m³ to 19,500m m³. This means that Germany accounts for 28.5 % of the total softwood consumption of all EOS member countries. With +4.2 % or +333,000 m³ to 8.250m m³, a similar increase in volume is expected for France, but at the same time an above-average percentage increase in consumption. France's share of total consumption thus rises to 12.0 %, but still lags behind the United Kingdom at 14.7 %. With the exception of Sweden (-2.8 % to 5.400m m³) and Norway (-2.8 % to 2.900m m³), the consumption of sawn softwood is expected to increase in the other EOS member countries.
