China now most important export market for US softwood lumber

18.05.2011 −

US softwood lumber exports rose sharply in the first quarter of 2011, on the back of very brisk demand from Asia. At a total of 851,760m³, softwood lumber exports were 37% higher than in the same period of last year. The export value even rose by 41% to US$231.8m. The crucial factor behind this huge increase was the growth in deliveries to China including Hong Kong from 39,556m³ to 223,948m³. China thus replaced Canada as the most important export market for US softwood lumber. US exports to Canada dropped 18% to 198,262m³ in the first three months of 2011.
