Chilean sawnwood exports to China increase again

23.11.2021 −

Between April and June, Chilean exports of rough-sawn radiata pine lumber to China increased by 15% to 118,353 m³, after a decline had been recorded in the first quarter (-55%). According to figures published by the Instituto Forestal (Infor) deliveries to Mexico (+21%) and Japan (+1%) also turned positive after falling short of the respective preceding year’s volumes in the first quarter. Regarding exports to Vietnam (+64%), the United Arab Emirates (+263%) and Peru (+167%), the positive development of the first quarter intensified further. The volume of radiata pine lumber sold to customers in South Korea (-6%) and Saudi Arabia (-28%) in the second quarter was also lower than in the previous year, this had already been the case in the first quarter. The 23% increase in exports to a total of 560,604 m³ could not fully compensate for the decline recorded in the first quarter (-18%). Accumulated over the first six months, a volume of 1.071m m³ radiata pine lumber was exported at a value of US$247.1m.

Exports of planed radiata pine lumber, at a value of US$50.1m (US$35.7m), reflected a 20% increase to 164,349 m³ over the first six months.
