In the third quarter, Chilean exports of rough-sawn radiata pine lumber decreased by 23% vis à vis the preceding year to 504,853 m³. This meant that exports were also below the volume recorded by Instituto Forestal (Infor) for the first quarter (-18% to 510,516 m³). In the second quarter, as a result of a 23% increase, exports had reached a new record level of 560,604 m³.
Between July and September, deliveries to China declined by 11% to 108,005 m³. Due to the below-average decline, this volume as a proportion of total exports rose by two percentage points to 21%. Exports to Vietnam (-16%) and Mexico (-10%) also declined at a below-average rate. Accumulated over the first nine months, total exports - at a value of US$392.9m - were 9% lower in terms of volume at 1.576m m³.
Exports of planed radiata pine lumber, including both joint-free and finger-jointed products, amounted to a value of US$152.0m and increased by 12% in terms of volume to 375,651 m³. Of this export volume, 108,725 m³ was sold to customers in the USA, representing growth of 7%. Deliveries to Mexico (90,456 m³) and China (71,043 m³) also increased at a single-digit rate. Exports to Peru (40,983 m³) almost trebled vis à vis the preceding year.
