Canfor set to close Isle Pierre sawmill too

08.06.2020 −

Canfor is set to close the doors at its Isle Pierre sawmill near Prince George, British Columbia. In a press release issued on 20 May, the group said that it was shutting the mill because of insufficient supply of economically viable timber following the mountain pine beetle epidemic, coupled with the global economic downturn caused by the coronavirus crisis. The mill is to shut in the third quarter following an orderly wind-down of operations.

Isle Pierre is the second sawmill that Canfor has closed in 12 months. In June 2019, the group announced the permanent closure of its 250 million bdft sawmill in Vavenby.
