Above-average growth in planed lumber production

In the third quarter German production of planed softwood lumber increased by 9.1% vis à vis the comparative quarter of the preceding year to 1.267m m³. In the first quarter production increased by 16.7% to 1.162m m³. In the second quarter, according to the figures adjusted by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) the rate of increase was lower at 4.2% to 1.208m m³.

Accumulated over the first nine months, 3.637m m³ planed lumber was produced, which corresponds to a 9.7% increase. Of this volume, 3.587m m³ was sold to external customers at a value of €913.9m. In terms of volume and value, this represents an increase of 9.6% and 1.5% respectively.

Production of rough-sawn softwood lumber increased by 1.4% to 4.816m m³ in the third quarter. In the first (4.468m m³) and second (4.877m m³) quarters production also increased at a single-digit rate. For the first nine months an increase at the same rate is calculated to 14.161m m³. Of this volume, 10.980m m³ - or 78% - was sold at a value of €2.014bn. Whilst the sales volume increased slightly, the value declined by 3.8%. Sawmills internally processed 3.180m m³ softwood lumber, an increase of 5.4%. Classified according to types of wood, 11.432m m³ spruce lumber was produced. Increases were recorded for both pine lumber (+7.3% to 2.027m m³) and other softwood lumber (+19.9% to 701,854m³).
