Virtually no change in softwood lumber production

In the third quarter, a total volume of 5.047m m³ rough-sawn softwood lumber was produced in Germany, corresponding to an increase of 0.4% vis à vis the preceding year. Much stronger growth had been achieved in the first quarter (+4.8%). According to the adjusted figures of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) production had increased even more sharply in the second quarter (+9.3% to 5.316m m³). Classified according to range, the preliminary figures issued by Destatis concerning rough-sawn spruce lumber indicate a production increase of 1.2% to 4.251m m³, while production of rough-sawn pine fell by 4.7% to 613,789 m³. At 182,536 m³, the production of other rough-sawn softwood lumber was also just 0.4% higher.

After the increases in the first two quarters, total production for the nine-month period amounts to 15.404m m³, representing an increase of 4.8%. This figure comprises 12.848m m³ of spruce (+6.0%), 1.961m m³ of pine (-3.9%) and 593,983 m³ of other conifers (+10.4%).
