Södra’s roundwood prices increased again

Roughly seven weeks after the last price increase, Södra announced on 7 October another rise in its prices for industrial roundwood and fuelwood. Prices for industrial roundwood are going up by SEK30/m³ and for fuelwood by SEK50/m³ with immediate effect. A bonus of SEK50/m³ is also payable for fuelwood until further notice. Accordingly, the new basic price in the “Prima” quality category is SEK465/m³ for industrial softwood and SEK505/m³ for industrial birch and poplar. The basic price for firewood is thus SEK250/m³ or SEK300/m³ including the bonus.

Södra says the move, as in August, is due to the continuing heavy demand for both assortments. In view of the tense energy situation within Europe, the group is assuming that demand for industrial roundwood and fuelwood is going to remain high throughout the winter half-year. Olof Hansson, division manager at Södra Skog, believes the new price increases are likely to play a part in rapidly increasing Södra members’ harvesting activities in the thinning segment, enabling the industry to be provided with more roundwood as well.
