According to the US Census Bureau in the US the number of building permits granted in the twelve-month period up to and including July 2012 compared to that granted in the twelve-month period up to and including June 2012 increased by 6.8% to 812,000. For detached houses, 513,000 permits were issued, equivalent to a rise of 4.5%. The number of building starts was down by 1.1% to 746,000. Building starts for detached houses, at 502,000, showed a month-on-month decline of 6.5%, bringing a halt for the time being to the continuous increase in building starts seen in the last four months. The number of completed apartments increased by 7.1% to 668,000. 448,000, or 5.9% fewer detached houses were completed.
