Housing permits increased by 2.3% in August

In Germany, housing permits in new residential buildings increased by 2.3 % year-on-year to 27,026 units in August. According to figures published yesterday by the Federal Statistical Office, the approval rate for apartment buildings was 8.2 % higher at 16,554 units. The number of approved single-family houses (-7.9 % to 7,572 units) and apartments in two-family houses (-10.7 % to 1,828 units), on the other hand, fell. 3,640 apartments were approved for construction work on existing buildings; this corresponds to an increase of 1.9%.

Cumulated over the first eight months, 204,114 housing permits were issued in new residential buildings, 2.5% more than in the previous year. The number of housing permits in multi-family houses increased (+7.7 % to 120,153 units), while single-family houses (-1.2 % to 60,968 units) and apartments in two-family houses (-3.8 % to 14,682 units) declined. A total of 234,420 apartments were approved in new and existing residential and non-residential buildings, an increase of 1.9%.
