The number of homes completed in new and existing residential and non-residential buildings in Germany in 2021 was 4.2% lower than a year earlier at a total of 293,393 units. The estimated construction costs were down by 0.7% at 91.703bn. The federal statistics office (Destatis) had reported 306,376 completions for 2020. At 256,352 units, the figure for homes in new residential buildings also fell short of the previous year by a single-figure percentages. 20,118 of these homes were built in semi-detached houses (-17%), and 147,925 in apartment blocks (-3.6%). An above-average reduction was registered in detached houses (-10.4% to 78,209 units). 31,724 homes were built as a result of construction measures in existing buildings, a reduction of 2.7%.
