Domotex to be switched to two-year cycle in 2024

After the corona-related cancellations in 2021 and 2022, the Domotex flooring fair held annually in Hannover since 1989 is being switched to two-year cycle from next year. As such, the trade fair will only take place in even-numbered years in future in alternation with the Bau fair held in Munich in odd-numbered years. Various Domotex exhibitors, from the laminate-flooring and parquet sectors in particular, had been calling for such a switch since the early 2000s. The Domotex organiser Deutsche Messe remained unconvinced for a long time, however. The counterarguments given included Domotex’ earlier positioning as a leading global fair for the floor-coverings sector and the resistance put up by exhibitors from the oriental-rug segment. Oriental-rug manufacturers and merchants traditionally generate a substantial proportion of their annual sales revenue through the Domotex fair. For this reason, these companies would still prefer an annual cycle. Following the decision in favour of a two-year cycle, Deutsche Messe might develop an alternative concept for the oriental-rug exhibitors in the odd-numbered years.

The exhibitors at this year’s Domotex appeared to be mostly very satisfied with the way the trade fair went; in some cases, the rather muted expectations were clearly exceeded. According to unpublished information from Deutsche Messe AG, a total of around 20.000 visitors were registered, a good two thirds of whom came from abroad. The next Domotex in Hannover is scheduled to take place from 11 to 14 January; from Thursday to Sunday, the same days as those chosen for this year for the first time.
