In the first nine months of 2012, continued rise in the number of building approvals in Germany up to the end of September has resulted in year-on-year growth of 6% to 178,097. According to figures issued by the German Federal Statistical Office, 159,415 of those approvals were accounted for by apartments in new buildings, while approval numbers for apartments in new residential buildings were given as 156,588, equivalent in both cases to year-on-year increases of 6%. The overall trend was determined by a rise of 14% in approvals for multiple-dwelling units.
