According to preliminary information, Swedish furniture production decreased again in 2020 for the first time in six years, down by 2.8% to SEK24.5bn - equivalent to approximately €2.4bn. According to figures published by wood and furniture industry association Trä- och Möbelföretagen (TMF) after the 9.6% decrease to SEK20.7bn recorded in 2013, the value of production had increased in each of the following six years. From 2013 to 2019, overall growth amounted to almost 25%. In 2019, growth had slackened off considerably to +0.4%, after an increase of as much as 6.4% had still been achieved in 2018.
Last year, office furniture and kitchen furniture each accounted for 17% of total production; furniture parts for 18%; mattresses and upholstered furniture for 7% each; and miscellaneous furniture for the remaining 33%. In 2019, TMF had reported distribution of production across the individual product groups as follows: office furniture 20%, kitchen furniture 18%, furniture parts 15%, mattresses 4%, upholstered furniture 7%, miscellaneous furniture 36%.
