Turnover in German furniture trade to reach almost €28bn

The association of German furniture, kitchen and interior finishing dealers (BVDM) is expecting net turnover (excluding VAT) to the amount of almost €28bn this year in the German furniture and kitchen trade. Vis à vis the preceding year, when net turnover of €27.6bn was achieved, this represents an increase of approximately 1.5%. The economic figures of the Federal Statistical Office substantiate the BVDM forecast. In the first five months of 2016 turnover rose accordingly by 3.4% vis à vis the comparative period of the preceding year. According to BVDM’s estimates, at least stable turnover development is expected up until the end of the year. Especially long-term trends such as the development in housing construction, but also the low inflation rate and low interest rates, are having a positive impact on turnover in the furniture and kitchen trade. On the medium term, the association also expects an increase in demand on account of the influx of persons from refugee regions.
