Russian furniture imports continue to increase

In the second quarter, Russian furniture imports again increased significantly. Imports rose by 72% to US$623.5m, after the Russian customs authority had recorded an import decline of around 25% in the same period last year. Furniture imports had already risen by 15% in the first quarter. For the second quarter, the statistics show significant growth concerning imports from China (+80% to US$194.3m). Above-average growth was also recorded in imports from South Korea (+146% to US$55.6m), the USA (+183% to US$22.1m), Turkey (+90% to US$11.9m) and Great Britain (+88% to US$6.7m). The value of furniture imported from Germany totalled US$32.4m, representing an increase of 50%.

In the first half-year, Russian imports rose by 40% vis à vis the level of the preceding year to US$1.153bn. In 2020, by contrast, a decline of 13% had been recorded. Per end of June, imports of seating furniture (+54% to US$614.7m) increased at a more significant rate than imports of mattresses (+36% to US$42.6m) and other furniture (+27% to US$495.7m).
