Kitchen industry again exceeds €11 bn mark

14.05.2019 −

In 2018, the German kitchen industry achieved a turnover of € 11.43 bn (including electrical appliances, sinks and accessories). This is the fourth time in a row that the €11bn mark has been exceeded. Compared to the previous year, however, sales declined by 1.2%. For the first time since the data were collected in 2009, both domestic and foreign sales have declined. While exports fell by 0.6 % to € 5.0bn, domestic sales declined by 1.7 % to € 6.43bn. Sales generated in Germany had already fallen by 2.0 % in 2017; abroad, on the other hand, an increase of 2.6 % was achieved at that time.

The figures presented yesterday at the AMK Business Press Conference in Cologne were compiled on the basis of an annual market survey conducted in cooperation with several associations. In addition to the AMK, the VdDK, the ZVEI and the market research institute GfK are also involved.

According to AMK Managing Director Volker Irle, the long delivery times of some kitchen furniture manufacturers, particularly in the first half of the year due to the discontinuation of the Alno Group and the hot summer, had a negative impact on sales in the German kitchen industry in 2018. AMK sees future growth potential in the rising demand for western standard kitchens in China and in the comparatively high stock of kitchens in Germany (15m kitchens) older than 15 years.
