Ingka Group wants to accelerate restructuring

The Ingka Group, the largest Ikea franchisee, wants to accelerate its restructuring. Accordingly, the group intends to create 30 so-called Ikea contact points over the next two years, expand the e-commerce platform and invest in fulfilment and distribution centres. In addition to the traditional furniture stores, contact points also include the inner-city store formats announced at the beginning of April. The new store formats will be available in 30 major cities worldwide in the future. According to Ingka CEO Jesper Brodin, the background to the accelerated restructuring plans is the retail landscape, which is changing at an unprecedented speed, and the resulting change in customer behaviour. The aim is to simplify processes and structures within the Group and to offer products and services flexibly in various ways.

As part of the planned restructuring of all Ingka divisions, 11,500 new jobs are to be created over the next two years. However, the Group has also conceded that 7,500 of the 160,000 jobs currently available could be eliminated at the same time. The job cuts would mainly affect global functions and national headquarters in 30 markets.
