Howdens almost offsets declines in Great Britain

In the 2020 financial year, total turnover of Howden Joinery Group (Howdens) decreased by 2.3% to £1.548bn. The decline of 29% to £453.4m recorded in Great Britain during the first half year could not be fully offset by the increase of 15.8% to £1.056bn achieved in the second half year. For the entire year, a decline of 2.6% to £1.510bn ensues. The decline in the first half year was exclusively due to the drop of 55.9% recorded in the second quarter; an increase of 1.1% had actually been achieved in the first quarter. 16 new kitchen studios were opened in Great Britain in the 2020 financial year, and one location was closed. The number of British branches increased to 748 in 2020. Adjusted to account for the new openings, turnover on the domestic market fell by 4.5%.

Howdens generated turnover of £37.9m in continental Europe last year. In 2021 Howdens intends to expand its network of branches in France by 11 studios. Approximately 35 new branches are to be added in Great Britain.
