German furniture exports surpassed €10bn threshold

06.04.2016 −

German furniture exports in 2015 were 6.6% higher than the year before at €10.125bn, thereby surpassing the €10bn mark for the first time ever. Provisional figures from the federal statistics office published by the German Furniture Industry Association however, show that Germany’s furniture imports underwent similar growth of +5.4% to €11.932bn. As such, their value remained above those of the furniture exports. The value of the furniture exports and imports had drawn continuously closer together from 2000 to 2007 whereby the imports were always higher than the exports nevertheless. The figures drifted apart again from 2008 onwards, resulting in a high foreign trade deficit of €1.8bn in 2015.
