German furniture exports stagnated at 2016 level in July

German furniture exports in July remained stable at last year’s level. According to information from the German Furniture Industry Association (VDM) reduction in shop furniture (-20.1%), living, dining, and bedroom furniture (-7.9%), and upholstered furniture (-7.8%) coincided with growth in office furniture (+6.2%), Mattresses (+3.8%), other seating furniture (+3.4%), kitchen furniture (+2.1%), and other furniture (+0.3%). German exports of furniture fell by 0.9% in the first seven months.

German furniture imports rose slightly by 0.5% in July. By far the greatest growth was registered in mattress imports at +27.8%. Imports of office furniture were also up (+6.1 %), as were those of other furniture (+2.3%), and other seating furniture (+1.0%). Imports of shop furniture and kitchen furniture, however, fell by double-figure percentages of 34.8% and 22.8% respectively. Imports of living, dining, and bedroom furniture (-3.6%) and upholstered furniture decreased as well (-3.5%). Furniture imports fell by a total of 1.4% in the first seven months of this year.
