Further growth for furniture industry in Germany, abroad

16.02.2021 −

The upward trend in the German furniture industry, which has been ongoing since August, intensified in November. According to statistics issued by the Association of the German Furniture Industry (VDM) compiled on the basis of figures supplied by the Federal Statistical Office total turnover improved by 5.0% vis à vis the comparative month of the preceding year to €1.732bn. For the first time in 2020, both domestic business (+6.6% to €1.193bn) and export business (+1.5% to €538.4m) contributed to this increase in turnover. Between January and May and also in July, turnover had declined both in Germany and abroad. In June, as well as in August, September and October, negative turnover in export business slowed the positive effects from improved development on the domestic market. With regard to absolute figures, November was also the strongest individual month, both in terms of total turnover and domestic and export turnover. In the sequence of the individual months, a relatively sharp increase was recorded in all three cases between August and September. Since then, turnover has increased only slightly, both on the domestic market and in exports.
