Belgian furniture industry turnover up by one-fourth

19.11.2021 −

The recovery in demand observed by the Belgian furniture industry from the second half of 2020 onwards, continued in the first half. According to preliminary data from the Belgian industry association Federatie van de Textiel-, Houten Meubelindustrie (Fedustria) total industry turnover was up by 25.6% to €1.180bn per end of June. Overall, this is the highest turnover increase achieved since 2005. However, the corona-related shop closures in the same period of the previous year must be considered in this context, as these had led to turnover declines - significant declines, in some cases. At that time, a turnover decline of 3.5% in the first quarter had been followed by a 17.5% drop in the second. The turnover growth per end of June also represented an increase of 12.1% vis à vis the pre-crisis level recorded in the first half of 2019. According to Fedustria, in addition to the positive development concerning demand, turnover development was also positively affected by price increases in response to higher material and transport costs.
