4.7% increase in Ikea retail trade turnover in 2017/2018

Swedish Ingka Group (formerly Ikea Group) generated Ikea retail trade turnover of €34.8bn in the 2017/2018 business year, which ended at the end of August. As the group announced on 10 October, this represents a 4.7% increase adjusted to account for currency fluctuations vis à vis the preceding year. Growth has thus accelerated slightly again. In the past business year, the increase rate - adjusted to account for currency fluctuations - was 3.8%. In the 2015/2016 business year turnover adjusted to account for currency fluctuations also rose by 3.8% compared to the preceding year. In the current reporting period increases were recorded in most of the existing 30 national markets, with China being the fastest growing market.

Owner and worldwide franchisor of the Ikea concept is Inter Ikea Systems. The Ingka Group is the largest franchisee with 367 furniture stores and 158,000 employees worldwide. In the period covered by the report, the Ingka Group opened twelve new home furniture stores. A total of 838m (+3%) customers visited the Ikea furniture stores. The Ikea.com website recorded 2.35bn visitors, representing a 10% increase compared to the preceding year.
