20.8 % growth in German furniture industry since 2005

05.04.2019 −

The German furniture industry boosted its sales revenue by a total of 20.8 % between 2005 and 2018. This is revealed by the industry report by the German furniture industry association VDM. During this period, every three years of growth was followed by another reduction in sales revenue, which has turned out to be lower in the last few years, however. The sales revenue of 14.9bn € in 2005 until the pre-crisis year of 2008, for example, rose continuously to 17.4bn €. When the economic and financial crisis set in, the furniture industry’s sales revenue in 2009 slumped to 15.4bn €. The sectors sales then recovered successively until 2012 to 17.1bn € before another reduction to 16.0bn € was recorded in 2013. The pre-crisis level was unable to be attained in full again until 2015. After a temporary peak of 18.0bn € in 2016, a slight weakening occurred again in 2017 at 17.8bn € but the 18.0bn € threshold was reached again in 2018.
