Maisons du Monde ends 2021 with turnover growth

Following a decline of 2.0% in the third quarter, turnover of Maisons du Monde was back on the rise in the fourth quarter according to provisional information, with an increase of 3.3% to €369.0m. The subdued development in the second half of the year contrasted with increases of 36.8% in the first quarter and 34.0% in the second. This was mainly due to base effects arising from the corona-related distortions recorded in the comparative period of the preceding year.

Accumulated over the entire year, a turnover increase of 15.1% to €1.307bn ensues. The increase was thus higher than the company had recently anticipated. According to a forecast revised upwards at the end of October, the company had expected growth low in the double-digit percentage range. Turnover reported was adjusted to account for Modani Miami. Maisons du Monde had announced back in autumn that it intended to reduce its Modani stake from 70% to 15%.
Turnover generated with furniture increased by 11.0% to €540.7m last year. Growth was slowed by the limited availability of goods and extended delivery times, especially in the second half of the year. Turnover generated with decorative articles increased by 18.2% to €766.1m. E-commerce turnover rose by 13.1% to €435.5m, while turnover generated with brick-and-mortar business increased by 16.1% to €871.3m. Online activities thus accounted for approximately one-third of total turnover.
