On 17 April, the US-American Mohawk Industries submitted a new application to the EU Commission’s Director-General for Competition for the planned takeover of International Flooring Systems. The original application had been submitted under case number M.7529 on 2 March, but Mohawk had withdrawn that application again on 24 March after objections to the transaction had been raised by various parties. According to unconfirmed information, the French floor-coverings concern Tarkett, inter alia, protested to the EU Commission. With the new application, Mohawk has submitted additional documentation for more detailed scrutiny. According to a notice issued on 21 April, the EU Commission intends to hand down a decision on the competitive admissibility of the takeover within a defined deadline of 25 working days; probably by 28 May.
