A trend towards higher prices has started to materialise for certain lumber assortments purchased by European importers in West Africa in the last few weeks. African sawmills have thus responded to the increasing supply bottlenecks in connection with the production curtailments implemented for many months now. Purchasing prices first stabilised in the third quarter, after suppliers had previously been more prepared to make price concessions. In spite of the tightening supply situation, African lumber producers are apparently not planning to step up their output again for now.
