Metsä Wood disposes of thermowood business

Metsä Wood, the Wood Products division of the Finnish Metsä Group, Espoo, sold its thermowood business operations to the Finnish thermowood producer Lunawood. The associated plant in Kaskinen, which is configured for annual production capacity of roughly 20,000 m³ of thermowood, will be transferred to Lunawood with immediate effect; all employees will be taken over by the new owner. The sale price for the transfer was not divulged. Metsä Wood will in future focus on plywood, Kerto-LVL and lumber as core business fields, which no longer included thermowood. In connection with the sale, the contracting parties have concluded an agreement running for several years, according to which Metsä Wood will supply Lunawood with lumber. No details of the agreement have been given.

With this sale, Metsä Wood abandons its last remaining production site in Kaskinen. The sawmill at the Kaskinen site had already been decommissioned in 2009. Following the takeover of the Kaskinen site, Lunawood's annual production capacity has increased from 81,000 m³ to roughly 100,000 m³ of thermowood. The company owns other production sites in Iisalmi and Joensuu in Finland.
