The slowing that has been noticeable on the German sales markets for new standard pallets since the beginning of the third quarter has become more pronounced during August. According to information from German pallet manufacturers, the seasonally reduced influx of orders in August turned out to be up to 20% lower than in the same month of last year in some cases. Besides delivery of higher volumes under contract in the second quarter and more extensive stoppages in the recipient industries during the summer holidays, manufacturers are also attributing the fewer receipts of orders to noticeably higher pressure from imports compared to the preceding months. As such, eastern European manufacturers, especially those in Poland and Belarus, stepped up their sales activities on the German market in August/September and in doing so were evidently willing to make further price concessions as well.
Demand for pallets fails to match year-ago levels
