Brazilian elliotis pine plywood exports fell below 1m m³ mark for first time in 2011
The downturn in Brazilian elliotis pine plywood exports over the past several years has continued in 2011, as well. Export statistics show that Brazilian plywood manufacturers shipped just 865,637 m³ of elliotis pine plywood abroad last year. Exports have thus been cut almost in half since 2006. In that year, Brazil exported 1.737m m³ of elliotis pine plywood. Deliveries tumbled 11.5% to 1.537m m³ in 2007, before sliding by another 9.6% to 1.537m m³. The global economic crisis triggered an even stronger decline of 25.5% to 1.035m m³ in 2009. After briefly stabilising in 2010, a year that brought a dip of just 2%, Brazilian plywood exports plunged again by 14.7% last year.
