SCA sales of solid wooden products increased 13%

07.02.2017 −

Restructuring costs from the closure of a paper mill and reduced delivery figures for paper and kraftliner coupled with partly lower selling prices and adverse exchange-rate effects impaired the results of the “Forest Products” division of Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebo-laget (SCA) in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Whereas deliveries of newsprint (-11%) and kraftliner (-1%) fell short of those of the year before, sales of pulp (+7%) and solid-wood (+13%) were increased. Total deliveries amounted to 617,000 m³. The reason for this growth in the lumber segment was the start-up of the chipper-canter line put into op-eration at the Tunadal plant in May with an annual cutting capacity of 1m m³.

At SEK4.268bn, the sales revenue generated in the fourth quarter of last year was around 3% higher than a year earlier where-as the operating result, leaving non-recurring items aside, fell by 10% to SEK552m. The return on sales fell from 14.8% to 12.9%.
