Record level reached in felling in Norway in first quarter

At a total of 2.715m m³, felling reached a new record level in Norway in the first quarter whereby the volumes felled in January and February were 7.3% and 4.2% higher respectively than last year at 825,000 m³ and 958,000 m³. Data from Statens Landbruksforvaltning (SLF) of Oslo, however, shows that the volume felled in March was down by almost 8%; in April, the felled volume rose again by 8.1% against the same month of 2015.

No major fluctuations were registered in log prices during the course of the first four months of this year. According to the SLF, the average price across the whole range of assortments was NOK328/m³ in March and thus NOK8/m³ higher than the figure in January; in April, however, the figure was already down again to NOK322/m³.
Spruce and pine logs fetched an average of NOK412/m³ and NOK434/m³ respectively in April and were thus 4.4% and 4.6% down against a year earlier.
