– According to a notice issued by the European Monitoring Centre on Change (EMCC), Dublin, Ireland, on 17 August 2011, Javor IPP d.o.o., another subsidiary of Javor Pivka d.d., Pivka, Slovenia, has had to file for bankruptcy. The Slovenian furniture manufacturer Javor Pohištvo d.o.o., Ilirska Bistrica, had already filed for bankruptcy in July last. All of the roughly 120 work force, of whom 40% are disabled, are affected by the closure of production at Javor IPP. The company had produced chairs and provided services for the companies in the Javor group. Although Javor IPP and Javor Pohištvo are independent companies, Javor IPP is dependent to a high degree on operations in the furniture division of Javor Pohištvo.
Roughly 200 employees were made redundant at Javor Pohištvo at the beginning of August. There is currently an investigation under way to establish to what extent the furniture range can continue to be produced in a new business unit attached to the parent company Javor Pivka. With the exception of furniture activities, operations at the other companies within the Javor group have so far not been affected by the insolvency. The group’s main field of business is the manufacture of panelling boards, plywood panels and veneer.
