– According to the European Monitoring Centre on Change (EMCC), based in Dublin, Ireland, the Slovenian furniture manufacturer Javor Pohištvo d.o.o., Ilirska Bistrica, a subsidiary of Javor Pivka d.d., Pivka, filed for bankruptcy in July 2011. The background to this development was financial difficulties deriving from declines in order receipts resulting from the economic crisis. All 200 employees were dismissed with effect from 4 August. Local media reports state that there are currently considerations regarding to what extent production of the furniture range can continue in a new business unit of the parent company. New employment agreements are to be negotiated with the redundant work force. The current order book covers one month’s work.
Javor Pohištvo produces mainly seating furniture made from solid and laminated wood, as well as tables for living areas and contract furnishings. The production sites are in Bac and Pivka.
The Javor Group owns not only the furniture manufacturer but also Javor Stroji d.o.o. (Manufacture of presses for the timber industry and of plastic panels), Javor IPP d.o.o. (Disabled workshop, services and pallet production) and the two trading companies Javor Trgovina Ljubljana d.o.o. and Javor Trgovina Zagreb d.o.o.
