– German bathroom furniture manufacturers’ receipts of orders have continued to develop positively in the last few weeks in comparison to last year. The rate of growth turned out to be somewhat more moderate than in the preceding month, though July largely ended with an increase in the backlog of orders. Demand for bathroom furniture decreased slightly in the first two weeks of August but turned out to be better than last year. This growth in demand can be seen in sales in the furniture trade as well as in the bathroom trade, DIY stores, and the mail-order business. Unassembled bathroom furniture is just as much in demand at the moment at assembled furniture. Bathroom furniture manufacturers active in two-tier marketing are more optimistic for the rest of the year than those represented in the bathroom trade.
Although demand for bathroom furniture from abroad has stabilised recently, it is still at a low level. Development is said to be still slow in southern European countries in particular. Receipts of orders from Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands are more or less on par with the level reached the same time last year.
The majority of companies started the company holidays with a good backlog of orders. Capacity utilisation is still good after the holidays, too. Several manufacturers have introduced overtime and extra shifts to keep delivery periods at an acceptable level. The situation concerning the cost of materials calmed down during the summer, though more cost increases are expected in the second half-year.
