– German interior door manufacturers say they have so far been registering a brisk influx of orders over the summer months. The current orders position is generally being described as stable at a high level. In contrast to last year, high single-figure and sometimes even double-figure growth rates have been registered over the summer months as well as in the whole first half-year. Even in June, considerable growth was achieved in spite of the lower number of working days compared to the same period of last year. Although demand has become a little less brisk since mid-July due to the holiday period, it is still higher than the level of the past few years. Sales figures are well above those of last year, too. Suppliers believe this unbroken good business is attributable to private homebuilding and the continuing high level of corporate-scale contract business. Here, the positive development is being driven by undiminished brisk renovation business and an increasing number of new-building projects. Corporate-scale contract business is being described as largely stable at a high level.
German manufacturers are also expecting development to remain good for this year’s autumn business and at the end of the year. Good sales figures are expected from projects underway at the moment especially in the corporate-scale contract segment, though the growth rates in sales revenue and volume are expected to be slightly lower overall than in the year so far due to the baseline effect. At the end of last year, interior door suppliers had registered a sharp increase in receipts of orders. At that time the heavy demand had pushed a number of manufacturers to the limits of their capacity. Even in mid-November they were no longer able to confirm orders that had to be delivered before the end of the year.
Besides domestic business, development in export business has also been increasingly positive. For two months or so now, German suppliers have been observing heavy, rising demand from a variety of foreign markets. Surrounding markets in particular, such as France, Scandinavia, and the Benelux countries have shown more growth. Rising sales figures are being registered in the UK, too, especially in the large-scale contract segment. The minor upward trend observed in demand for quite some time on various eastern European markets also seems to be holding but suppliers say they are constantly turning down individual orders in these areas due to what is still uncertain funding.
In view of generally good demand in the last few months and a still high backlog of orders, some suppliers’ delivery periods have increased by an average of one to two weeks during the course of the summer. To counter the delays that have arisen in the meantime, a variety of suppliers have slightly shortened the company holidays they usually take in the summer months. One or two of them have added a shift to their production operations. The manufacturers say these measures have already shown an effect to the extent that delivery periods are already decreasing again. Delivery periods are expected to return to normal by the middle of September.
