– The amount of plywood exported from Latvia rose slightly by 2.9% to 111,600 (Jan.-June 2010: 108,400) m³ in the first six months of this month. This improvement comes on the heels of a slight increase in the first quarter of this year. The Latvian Ministry of Agriculture’s Department of Forest Resources in Riga announced that the value of these exports surged 19.1% to LVL47.4m (39.8m). The value of these exports previously far exceeded the growth in quantities in the first quarter. This trend continued in the second quarter. The quantity exported to Germany recovered between April and June after facing a 9% drop between January and March. Latvian suppliers delivered 10,500 (Apr.-June 2010: 9,700) m³ of plywood to Germany in the second quarter of 2011, a jump of 8% over the same quarter in 2010. Exports to France also edged higher to 4,600 (4,300) m³. On the other hand, shipments to the UK and the Netherlands were slightly lower than the same stretch last year at 7,100 (7,500) m³ and 4,200 (4,300) m³ respectively. Exports to Italy also fell short of the same period last year at 5,000 (5,200) m³. The value of these exports all increased despite less plywood having left Latvia.
Latvia exported 20,100 (Jan.-June 2010: 20,200) m³ of plywood to Germany in the first half of 2011. The value of these exports was nearly 17% higher than the first half of last year at LVL9.2m (7.9m). Exports to the UK were about 5% lower in volume terms at 13,900 (14,600) m³, but their value jumped 13% to LVL5.5m (4.8m). France took delivery of 9,200 (8,700) m³ of Latvian plywood with a value of LVL4.8m (4.2m) in the first six months. The quantity exported to the Netherlands tumbled almost 11% to 7,500 (8,400) m³, while the value of these exports improved 9% to LVL3.7m (3.4m). First-half shipments to Italy also declined to 9,200 (9,500) m³, but their value surged 13% to LVL3.8m (3.3m).
